Queering RPI is a storytelling and community building project designed to highlight the experiences, memories, and perspectives of queer students, faculty, and staff at RPI. The goal is to show students that they are not alone, that their identities matter, and that there is space for them on campus.
For many students, it can be intimidating to express who they are, especially in a climate where people are often treated differently for aspects of themselves they cannot change. At RPI, exposure to queer media, history, and narratives is limited within the curriculum, which can unintentionally signal that these topics are not meant to be discussed.
Queering RPI strives to shift that culture. This project collects and shares anonymous anecdotes, reflections, and moments from queer members of the RPI community. By sharing stories from students, staff, alumni, and others, Queering RPI makes these experiences visible, fosters connection, reduces isolation, and strengthens the sense of belonging on campus. Stories are shared through social media, physical posters, and RPI sites and media. Together, these contributions create a growing queer presence at RPI. These experiences are a reminder that queer stories matter, deserve to be heard, and help build a more supportive and inclusive campus community.
