RCA Minecraft Competition - October Edition, 4:30 p.m. 

The Rensselaer Christian Association presents a Minecraft Competition! Come join RCA's Minecraft Server and build anything you like. At the end of each competition, players will vote on who's build is the best and the players with the most votes will win a prize. Bring your family and your friends to this event, because team building is allowed. This competition is fitting for the month of October as we are looking for players to build the best Halloween/Fall themed builds.

This forum will feature panelists from the Rensselaer Union, Student Living and Learning, International Services for Students and Scholars, and our Diversity and Inclusion areas. With 3 degrees in electrical engineering from RPI, what industry do you think Tobi Saulnier '84 is innovating in today? If you said electrical engineering, you’d be wrong. That’s ok, Tobi would encourage you to guess again because she loves games so much, she created her own game development studio. Responsible Rensselaer: Do You Know Your Handbook Virtual Game Show, 10:00 a.m. 

Through education and ethical development, "Responsible Rensselaer" is a program that aims to cultivate One Rensselaer in which all students, staff, faculty and community members are responsible for themselves, each other and the greater Troy community. The foundation for "Responsible Rensselaer" is to first educate our community on the Rensselaer Handbook for Student Rights and Responsibilities. The Dean of Students Office will facilitate a "Game Show" to test our Rensselaer students and family’s knowledge!

Parent & Family Book Club Reunion, 7:00 p.m. 

Over the summer 2020, many first-year families joined us in a virtual book club and read The Stressed Years of Their Lives by B. Janet Hibbs & Anthony Rostain.  Let's reconnect a few months after we met last and check in.  How are you doing? What has changed? What strategies have you implemented that we discussed in the book club?  We can also discuss any relevant and timely updates about mental health on campus at this time.

Inventor’s Studio II, 12:20 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Join Dr. Asish Ghosh, Tracy Sullivan, and Susan Henry for Inventor’s Studio II. Watch your students work in teams to continue innovation, design, and development work on projects. This course emphasizes innovating, completing the design, building an improved prototype, applying for patent protection, and licensing the design. RPI SVA Family Night, 2:00 p.m. 

If you are a veteran, your parent/spouse/child is a veteran, if you like watching military movies or you're just generally curious about what being a veteran is all about…Join us in the RPI Virtual Lounge on Oct. 23rd 2-5pm EST as we trade war stories from the military, vent about that one project from that Professor we hope to never see again, and share victories from Internships and work experiences. The mission of the RPI SVA is to offer community support for veterans, veteran family members, and veteran advocates in pursuit of long-term professional success. This workshop will focus on what employers are looking for in recent graduates and how students can prepare for an effective job search. Join staff from the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) to learn about the services we offer which prepare students for their job search. Learn about p5.js, an online creative coding library, and design some spooky Halloween themed visualizations! p5.js is a JavaScript library for creative coding, with a focus on making coding accessible and inclusive for artists, designers, educators, beginners, and anyone else! Using the metaphor of a sketch, p5.js has a full set of drawing functionality.

Open-Mic Night Featuring Ebony Stewart, Spoken Word Poet, 6:00 p.m. 

Sponsored by the African Student Association (ASA) and the Black Student Alliance (BSA). Enjoy the dynamic experience of the award-winning poet and storyteller. Ebony Stewart has performed in 47 states and at over a 1000+ schools. Recently, Ebony was interviewed by the British drag queen, Vinegar Strokes from season 1 of RuPaul Drag Race UK, to discuss #BlackLivesMatter, coping, and ways to be in solidarity and action. The art is still the art and the working topics of mental health, healthy relationships, dating, sexual health, and body image are still important to the work that Ebony Stewart does through poetry, storytelling, discussion, and workshops.

The Zombie Desert Escape room is a play at your own speed game which can be played by teams of 2 or more. Students and families can come alone to be placed in teams or can come with a team in place already.  We will take care of everything once the students arrive.The Game Master will provide directions and then send your team to your escape challenge. Complete the clues and tasks to get out.

The RPI Player's Present their family weekend sideshow, Share Your Story Cabaret. Pre-recorded, students at home and on campus worked together to present a cabaret of solos, duets, and group numbers themed around Share your Story: songs from myths, legends, and stories. The cabaret will premier at 8 pm and stay on the Player's youtube channel after for playback.
