Office of Inclusive Excellence

Collage of students at campus events

As part of President Schmidt's RPI Forward Vision and Roadmap for the Future, we are reimagining our founding vision and charting a pioneering course. The Office of Inclusive Excellence collaborates with other areas within the Division of the Student Experience and across the Institute to advance efforts to foster academic success in a Welcoming & Inclusive Community. Our office develops and implements programs and policies, which support the Institute’s vision for the recruitment, matriculation, success, and graduation of students!

RPI's Mission Towards A Welcoming and Inclusive Community:

It is time to consider how we can:

  • Make navigating our hilly campus especially with limited accessible buildings, much easier for students with disabilities.
  • Reduce feelings of isolation among our international students.
  • Ensure that our identity-based groups and economically disadvantaged students feel fully included in every aspect of life at Rensselaer.
  • Support women students and faculty in departments where they are significantly outnumbered—and help level the playing field for their future careers.
  • Foster a strong sense of safety and belonging for LGBTQ+ members of our community.

Above all, we must strive to be One Rensselaer—in spirit and in practice. Our backgrounds and experiences may differ, but we cannot allow those differences to divide us when so much possibility lies ahead.

Bridge Sholars

The JumpStart Scholars Program is aimed at supporting the transition for First-Generation college students not only during the summer transition period, but throughout their entire first year, beginning with early arrival to campus to ease adjustment, increase familiarity with institutional expectations, and strengthen belonging and inclusion before the broader student population arrives.

RPI First
