Student Orientation Schedule

Summer 2021

Students are asked to review the schedule and sign up for events and programs, all are scheduled for Eastern Standard Time (EST). Events are hosted on the WebEx video conferencing platform and registration links will be available within 7 days of each session. Email reminders are sent before each event. After each event occurs live, a link to the recording will become available in the session description. 

Weekly Connect - (June 15 - August 19)
In addition to the Orientation events below, please join the First Year Experience (FYE) Team for a weekly, live Q&A session. Connect days are not recorded but occur each week. This is just one of many ways to connect with us

Weekly Connect does not require registration and a link to join will be added before the first session.

Advising Consultation & Academic Webinars by school

Over these two weeks, you will have the opportunity to join webinars, correspond with an advisor, and get prepared to register for your fall classes. Learn more on the Advising & Registration page.

Auxiliary Services- Dining, Transportation, Laundry, and Vending
7:00 p.m. 

Learn more about the dining plans, our shuttle and transportation services, and all the day to day services you will interact with as a Rensselaer student.  


JULY 8 
ROTC at Rensselaer
2:00 p.m.
 

The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) programs are elective programs for students who desire commissions in the armed forces. Learn more about the ROTC experience at Rensselaer from our campus representatives.

International Student Connect Day

International Services for Students and Scholars as well as International Admissions representatives will be available to answer questions specific to our International student populations.

Disability Student Services
4:00 p.m.  

Learn more about Disability Student Services (DSS) at Rensselaer. DSS offers information and resources based on individual needs to ensure that students are provided academic adjustments to allow for equal access to a college education at Rensselaer.

Parents: Suggested Reading Discussion

Join First-Year Experience and Rensselaer's counseling staff for a discussion on the first-year student transition.  We will use the suggested reading, The Stressed Years of Their Lives as a guide for this discussion.

Class Registration   

During this time all students will register for their fall classes.   


JULY 14 
Living on Campus
4:00 p.m. 
  

The Student Living & Learning staff will share insight on how to prepare for living on-campus this fall, with details about leadership opportunities, what you should and should not bring with you, the moving-in process, and recommendations about making the most of your first year in the residence halls at Rensselaer. Public Safety will also share perspective on how to be smart and safe on campus and in Troy and how they support students.

Parents: Supporting Your Student's Career Development

This session will provide parents the opportunity to connect with the CCPD to learn more about services provided to students throughout their time at RPI, our new career management platform, how to support your student's career development journey, and engagement opportunities with CCPD.

Parents: Your Student's Health & Safety

Join Rensselaer's Department of Public Safety and Rensselaer's Student Health Center, to learn more about safety protocols on campus and in our community as well as our recommendation for mental and physical health as a college student.

Being a Successful Student: Self Care and Time Management 101
2:00 p.m.
  

This session will focus on the best academic strategies for transitioning to college level coursework and lifestyle.  


JULY 21 
Know Your Union
4:00 p.m.
  

This session will focus on how to becoming involved and engaged with the Rensselaer Student Union. The topics of interest will include the Union's resources, clubs & organizations, student government, and affinity programming.  


JULY 22 
Greek Life Webinar
4:00 p.m.
  

Current leaders in the fraternity and sorority community, along with administrative staff, will share the unique and powerful opportunities available to students who join sororities at Rensselaer.  There will be ample opportunity for participants to ask questions about one of the most impactful involvement opportunities on-campus.

This session will provide you an opportunity to learn how you can start your internship search right away at Rensselaer.  The CPPD is here to help you navigate developing your resume, mastering networking and interviewing, and searching for the right opportunities for you.  


AUGUST 3 
Center for Career and Professional Development Meet and Greet
12:00 p.m.
 

This session will provide you an opportunity to connect with a Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) career counselor for your specific academic area. Join for an overview of services and resources, opportunities within that academic area, where students intern, employer engagement, and career exploration.


AUGUST 4 
What to Expect at NRB
2:00 p.m.  

Move-in and NRB is right around the corner. It’s going to be a lot of fun, but what can you really expect and how do you make the most of it? Your Orientation Advisors will break down the week and answer any questions.

Meet and greet with some of the Fall 2020 Learning Assistant.  Your Learning Assistant is an upper classmen who lives in the residence halls with first-year students and is there to help with the transition to college academics.  They run helpful programs and are there as a general resource. Q&A session will follow.
